Next Generation Ship Repair

Ship conversion and refit

Conversion and refit projects offer the opportunity to adapt an existing vessel to new requirements, operational needs or regulations. At Next Generation Shiprepair, we carry out conversion and refit projects with a focus on extending the vessel’s service life, reusing existing materials and ensuring efficient execution. By bringing all disciplines together at a single shipyard, we keep the process clear and well-structured from design through to handover.

What are the possibilities for my vessel?

An older vessel does not automatically mean it needs to be replaced. In many cases, conversion or refit can offer a good alternative. A careful assessment of the vessel’s condition provides insight into what is technically feasible and economically viable.

Next Generation Shiprepair works closely with you from the very first enquiry. Together, we assess which components can be retained, what needs to be modified and how the vessel can be upgraded for a new or different role.

Overhaul and refit for renewed performance

Cooperation between different disciplines is essential for effective maintenance. At Next Generation Shiprepair, all the necessary disciplines are available in-house. During overhauls and refits, vessels are upgraded both technically and functionally. Systems, installations and structures are inspected, repaired or replaced where necessary. The aim is to ensure that the vessel can return to service safely, reliably and efficiently.

By carefully planning and coordinating the work, we keep the project manageable and well organised. This helps ensure a result that meets expectations while extending the vessel’s service life.

Overhaul and refit projects begin with an assessment of the vessel’s current condition. Based on this assessment, we determine which modifications are required and which components can be retained. Our engineering and execution teams work closely together to ensure that the design translates effectively into practical execution.

The result is a vessel that is ready to return to reliable service and meets current operational requirements.

Sustainability through reuse

Sustainability plays an important role in conversion and refit projects. By reusing parts and materials wherever possible, we minimise waste and reduce the use of new materials and resources.

This approach not only contributes to sustainability but also makes efficient use of existing resources. Conversion and refit therefore offer a practical and responsible alternative to complete replacement or new construction.

Strategic location

Based in Lauwersoog, right on the Wadden Sea

The Next Generation Shiprepair yard is located in Lauwersoog, right on the Wadden Sea and accessible from the North Sea without having to pass through any locks. This location ensures short approach and departure routes and makes the yard easily accessible to vessels operating in the northern Netherlands and northern Europe.

The combination of location, site layout and available disciplines contributes to efficient planning and minimal downtime.
